We Actually Began in the Window Treatment Industry

My family was born into the window treatment business. My grandmother started a Drapery workroom in Pilot Mountain, NC, and operated it for 35 years dating back to 1983. My father grew up working in the window treatment industry, until venturing into the shutter manufacturing business he opened in High Point, NC in 1997.

Over the last 25 years, that business has grown into one of the region’s largest manufacturers of custom interior plantation shutters. Growing up around the industry, it came naturally to me, so my wife Shelby and I opened Custom Shutters of Raleigh offering full spectrum lines of interior window coverings in 2020.

Naturally, I knew the window treatment business from the ground up, but my main focus has been watching the evolution of the shutter, shades, and blinds industry, observing the changing consumer tastes in the window treatment trends.

When my wife, Shelby, and I moved into the Raleigh area in 2016, we were immediately struck by the differences in styles and preferences in the triangle market, especially the tendency to use elegant porches, decks, and porches as the primary outdoor space for living and entertaining. The market in the triangle has been evolving, changing and growing since we moved here. Our experience in the industry seemed to go hand-in-hand with the evolving market. I took our knowledge, skillsets, and supplier connections of interior window treatments and expanded them into the exterior living space. We pride ourselves on quality and integrity in all business, so transferring into the exterior living world came quite naturally.

With the hot summer sun beating down and the summertime pests buzzing, my wife and I saw an immediate need for screen, shades and other shelter products to enhance these areas of living. One of my main goals was to be able to provide a smooth transition for indoor and outdoor living. Thus was born Raleigh Screen Solutions, a full service provider of high quality products for patio screens, solar shades, insect control, and porch screening.

Shelby and I both attended NC State University, rooting ourselves in the Raleigh area where we plan on living and growing our family. We are proud parents of two ‘fur babies’, one being a Great Dane named Zoe and the other being a Dutch shepherd named Max. Although we live in the Pittsboro area (which is right by Chapel Hill) and often go to Chapel Hill for meals, we still pull hard for the NC State WOLFPACK! We attend many sporting, school and charity events at all triangle universities. We love NC State but we are there to support all local universities in their fight against other ACC foes.

My wife Shelby assists in both businesses with design help, which is a huge asset, given her architectural knowledge and customer service experience from being in the new home construction industry. We base our companies around quality, customer service, and compassion for our employees and our customers.
